Lessons in Marketing @ the Beach

June 16th, 2011 — Lead Management

Though not refined as it were – some of the best lessons that I have inferred about marketing, have of late been at the beach.

In different shapes and sizes, we see every kind of seller- someone selling sundal, another a service of polishing your shoe, yet another reading your palm, not to mention the corn and cut-mango seller, and host of other items and services.

In particular, I cannot miss the flower seller, from whom I draw my lessons today. As she is reaching out to every potential customer with her basket held at her side with fragrance wafting through the breeze, and wonderful sight of lily-like flower garlands, she smiles as she makes her way through, pausing at every human sight, enquiring – “Mallipoo vennu ma?” Since I don’t have a need for them she moves on.

Asking is the beginning of receiving, and who knows that better than the flower seller. Refusing to let a negative response lessen her enthusiasm in her next interaction, she approaches a young couple next, and she asks the same question again. She uses her selling skills to connect with the couple and entices them to buy. Immediately, she scans the crowd trying to locate the next likely sale.

So what makes the flower seller go around business as usual? I feel the key lies in some of the main points that the Mallipoo seller touches upon without fail everyday, even as she goes about it on a daily routine.

Reaching out to more and more potential Leads.

It is important for you to allow your customer to experience, touch and feel your product.

Take your product to your customers, so that you don’t lose out to your competition.

Win the confidence of your customer by a more pleasant experience– remember that your salesperson represents your brand.

Get the above things right, and you will experience a huge upsurge in your sales figures and watch your brand value go up.
